Tour Information

Ion Creţeanu

Ion Creteanu, Romania’s finest bard, continues his acclaimed series of concerts in Paris, France, Madrid and Zaragoza, Spain, with a Canadian tour celebrating IA (the Romanian Blouse) day.

Wearing opinci (traditional peasant shoes) on his feet and a red flowery ipingea (traditional festive coat) on his shoulders, he takes along magnificent ballads about the the proud people from Oltenia region in Southern Romania. Never parted with his 100-year-old cobză (lute) he travels around the world convinced that the past still has plenty of stories to tell.

The most valuable shirt in my traditional attire assortment was woven and hand sewn by my father’s mother in 1934, before he went to Military School. She made it to be a groom shirt, aware of her illness that would thwart the odds of seeing her son get married.” see more
